Research work in Prof. Ma’s Group focus on total synthesis of complex natural products with biological activities, development of new synthetic methodologies and their applications in synthesis of biologically and pharmaceutically important molecules, and biochemistry. 


1. Total synthesis and SAR studies of complex natural products 

       1)Alkaloids (Martinellic acid, Lepadin family, communesines, akuammilines, GB family, gracilamine and so on.)
       2)Cyclopeptides and Depsipeptide (Microsclerodermin E, Halipeptin A, Papuamide B, Salinamide A and so on.)
       3)Terpenoids (Englerin A, Leucosceptroids)
2. New synthetic methodologies
       1)Amino acid-promoted Copper-catalyzed Ullmann type coupling reactions .
     2)New approach of useful heterocycles such as substituted indoles, benzothiazoles, benzoimdazoles based on the copper-catalyzed coupling reactions.
    3)Organocatalyzed asymmetric Michael additions, Henry reaction as well as their applications in construction of important building blocks.
       4)New process of some drugs such as Paroxetine, Tamiflu, Zanamivir, Laninamivir.
    5)Intramolecular Dearomative Oxidative Coupling (IODC) reaction as well as theirapplications in total synthesis of complex natural products such as communesines, akuammilines and Methyl-Decarbonoxylchanofruticosinate.
3. Biochemistry: Design, synthesis, and biological evaluation of selective modulators targeted GPCRs, kinases, proteases and apoptosis pathway.
